Hiking

Gersau, the starting point
for hikes not only in the Rigi region

Gersau has 70 kilometres of marked hiking trails. There is a route for everyone: from easy hikes to challenging mountain tours. The easier but no less scenic routes include the «Waldstätterweg» from Brunnen or from Vitznau. The route over the Rigi Hochflue is very challenging.
You can find a few suggestions with descriptions on our hiking map.

We are very happy if you enjoy our landscapes and views! Please stay on the hiking trails and take your rubbish back with you. The landowners will thank you for it.

Here are three of many suggestions:

Rigi south side safari - the hit!

One round trip ticket for four different means of transport

The mountain bus from Gersau takes you to Obergschwend, where you take the aerial cableway to Rigi Burggeist. Here, the cosy Rigi-Burggeist mountain inn invites you to take a short break. Now start the hike to Rigi Scheidegg, where the "Arche" rewards you with a 360° panoramic view. Continue along the panoramic trail to Rigi Kaltbad-First. Take the oldest cog railway in Europe to Vitznau. Round off this sunny round trip with a leisurely boat trip on Lake Lucerne or the return journey to Gersau on the AAGS bus.

Zwärgliweg

A path for the big ones too.

The Zwärgliweg from Rigi Burggeist to Obergschwend is a cult favourite and not just for the little ones. The 535 bus takes you to Obergschwend and the Obergschwend - Rigi Burggeist aerial cableway takes you to the starting point of the hike. The path always leads downhill and the discovery of the dwarves and the other beauties of the area provide amusement.

Solène and Matthias from Hike&Dine have been out and about on the Zwärgliweg.

Panoramic bliss between Föhnenberge and Ochsenalp

Circular hike

This hike leads up to somewhat remote mountain homes. First, you head up towards the church via Sellen. A sensational view awaits you at the Trid. However, you have to turn slightly to the right of the hiking trail to the climbing walls. Take care, especially with children. There is no railing! A bench with a view awaits at Föhnenberg before you change direction to Ochsenalp. From there, a steep but rope-secured path leads to Buchgrindlen, then down to Rotzingel and through the forest down to the village.

Matthias from Hike&Dine was out and about on this circular hike.
